A surprising find in their menu, the bandung madeleines are a novel take on the traditional small cake.
I love it because it’s got a taste which is unfamiliar to my experience of eating madeleines, yet with an unmistakably local flavour which made for a welcome addition to the couple of Christmas parties I brought them to.
The madeleines are soft, bite-sized and thankfully have just the right amount of sugar in them. Reminiscent of the simple pleasures of the pastries of the yesteryears, the bandung madeleines are a good example of Cake Sei Yan’s ability to make funky flavours work.
